How to Set Your Socials Up for Success

In 3 easy steps

It’s so simple, they say.

It’s so easy.

So why doesn’t it FEEL easy?

The thing about social media is that it is a huge environment.

There are so many different people to talk to, so many different content options you can post.

For me, that endless array of options is what completely overwhelms me.

So I had to find a way to narrow my scope.

Figure out a way to put some rails up to keep me centered.

To hone in on what I can control.

When it comes to social media, the one thing you can control is your content.

So let’s get your socials set up for success…here are three easy ways to do that.

1. Optimize Your Profile

Yes! Your profile DOES matter. Here is how to set up a great first impression.

On Instagram, you want to:

Have a profile picture that is simple and recognizable. Here I think a logo OR a nice headshot of you is a great option.

Add a short profile description and include 2 searchable keywords. This likely comes naturally, but if you are stuck here, start with including what kind of products/services you offer and who you serve (i.e. who are the people you want to find on social media). Incorporate your unique selling proposition. Don’t overthink this. Just include that little something that sets you apart from your competition.

A link. Don’t leave anyone stranded. Help them take the next step. Link (with a call to action) to your website, a newsletter signup, a shopping page, etc.

On Facebook,

I am an advocate for using the same profile picture on all social channels for consistency. So reuse that IG photo!

Same goes for your bio and links

One extra bonus on FB is adding some additional information like hours and more info in the longer “about” section. Make sure to fill this out as it applies to your business, keeping in mind the keywords and USP you have in your short bio.

2. Organize Your Content

Now that we have a solid profile in place, let’s talk about content.

The single easiest way to keep posting sustainable is to find your posting rhythm, a framework for your content so that you have a guide. We want to set up a clear path to follow so you aren’t just posting randomly and hoping something will stick.

So what does that structure look like?

First, choose your content categories. This could be content buckets like “product features, behind-the-scenes, informational, etc.” OR it could be part of a sales funnel like “attraction/growth, nurture, sales.”

Once you have your content categories, decide on a frequency you want to post. Keep it reasonable! If 5 times a week is not something you can maintain, don’t start there. Start with 2 and build from there if you feel comfortable.

Finally, batch your content. I like to set aside my Wednesday mornings for content creation. But I don’t do it one post at a time. Find ways to cut your time down. Maybe you know that any time you get a new product in (or menu item or whatever it may be) that you take a few photos and video of that. Now you have that in your bank. Batching content is all about helping your brain not have to switch gears so often. I break mine out into sessions of ideation, visuals, captions, scheduling.

3. Track It

This step is easy to ignore, but can be the game-changer for figuring out what works when it comes to your social media…tracking your performance.

Setting up a simple tracking habit is a great way to look beyond the daily fluctuations and start to see a bigger picture. To see trends in what works and what doesn’t. Data is super powerful and is the single best way to help hone your social media strategy to focus on what works…and ditch what doesn’t!

For me, this looks like spending 20 minutes on the 5th of every month adding in my analytics from the previous month to a tracking spreadsheet.
